No. Plainse meals are gently cooked to safe internal temperatures, not raw. Cooking removes dangerous pathogens while keeping the ingredients whole and nutritious.
Meals are frozen immediately after portioning. Freshness comes from immediate freezing and batch controls, not chemical additives. As long as they're kept frozen, they stay fresh until you're ready to serve.
Yes. Our meals should be stored in the freezer until you're ready to use them. Once thawed, keep them in the fridge and serve within a few days. Do not refreeze after thawing.

Each box currently only includes seven individually portioned packs of fresh cat food, with each pack containing 142 oz. How long a box lasts depends on your cat’s size, activity level, and recommended daily serving.

Adult cats
Most adult cats need around 20 kcal per pound of body weight daily. A good starting point: one 200 kcal portion per 10 lbs, split across two or more meals. If your cat is maintaining a healthy weight, that's usually the right range just feed your cat one pouch a day or adjust up or down based on their energy level and body condition over time.
Kittens (under 12 months)
Kittens need significantly more calories per pound than adult cats to support growth and all that energy. From 1–6 months, aim for around 90–100 kcal per pound daily. From 6–12 months, that drops to roughly 45–54 kcal per pound as growth slows. Weigh your kitten weekly and adjust portions as they develop. Multiple small meals work best — 3 or 4 a day keeps up with their metabolism.
Pregnant & nursing cats
Pregnant cats generally need 40–80 kcal per pound daily, and nursing cats can need as much as 90–114 kcal per pound to support their kittens. As kittens begin to wean, calorie needs will come down naturally. Split daily intake across multiple meals to keep things manageable.
A slow transition gives your cat's digestive system time to adjust and makes the switch much smoother — especially for picky eaters. Here's a simple approach:
Days 1–3: Mix about 25% Plainse with 75% of their current food.
Days 4–6: Move to a 50/50 mix.
Days 7–9: Shift to 75% Plainse, 25% old food.
Day 10+: Fully transition to Plainse.
Go slower if your cat has a sensitive stomach or seems hesitant. Some cats take a little longer, and that's completely normal.
Yes, especially during the transition period. Mixing is a great way to introduce Plainse gradually and help picky cats warm up to it.
Cats can be skeptical of new food. A few things that help: slow down the transition, try serving at room temperature instead of straight from the fridge, or mix a small amount of their old food on top to start. Consistency matters more than speed here.
Move a portion from the freezer to the fridge the night before you plan to serve it. Once thawed, serve at room temperature or slightly warmed, not hot. Refrigerated portions should be used within 5 days.
Shipping & Orders
We ship nationwide across the continental United States. Orders are packed frozen and shipped cold, so every meal arrives in great condition.
Every order is packed frozen with insulated packaging and dry ice or ice packs to keep meals cold in transit. Our packaging is recyclable; see the insulator information in the packaging on how to recycle or dispose. Once your order arrives, move it to the freezer right away.
Your order is packed to stay cold for several hours after delivery. If you won't be home, leaving a cooler outside or having a neighbor grab it works well. Move it to the freezer as soon as you can, especially during hotter seasons where temperatures rise; it must be refrigerated as soon as possible.
Once your order ships, you'll receive a tracking link by email so you can follow it to your door.
If something arrives damaged, incorrect, or not as expected, reach out to us and we'll make it right. We stand behind every order.
Because Plainse is a perishable food product, we're not able to accept returns. But we do stand behind what we make. If something isn't right with your order, contact us, and we'll work it out.
Sometimes cats take a while to warm up to new food. We'd recommend trying the transition tips above first. If, after a genuine try, your cat still isn't having it, get in touch with us, and we'll fully refund your order. Refund requests must be made within 30 days of your first box being shipped to you. Individual items cannot be refunded.
Subscriptions
Not yet, but they're coming. Subscriptions will let you set a delivery schedule, manage everything from your Plainse account, and never worry about running out. We'll share more details when they're ready.
